SATURDAY/SUNDAY, JUNE 12/13,
AT MEMORIAL PARK, LADNER Chair Curt Jantzen cjband@telus.net
Ladner
Bandfest #6 is approaching fast, on Saturday June 12 and Sunday June
13, 2010. Twenty
bands have registered,
completely filling our schedule.
We are extremely pleased to have eighteen bands returning
to perform at
Bandfest #6. Additionally, two new bands are participating this year:
the North
Cascades Concert Band, from Bellingham, Washington, and the Vancouver Naval
Veterans’ Band. The North Cascades
Band, playing at 2pm on Saturday, rehearses in Bellingham under the
baton of
Lylburn Layer. The Naval Veteran’s
Band is performing in honour of the 100th anniversary of the
Canadian
Navy. Be sure to come out at 10:20
Sunday morning to honour and cheer the Naval Band and help them
celebrate this
important anniversary of our Canadian Armed Forces!
To read about
all the participating bands, please go to our excellent
website at www.ladnerbandfest.org,
updated
constantly by Webmanager Ken Borrie.
Organizational
Structure and Goals: The
Ladner Bandfest is organized by the Ladner Bandfest Committee,
which is a sub-committee of the Delta Music Makers.
The committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who are
all
musicians in the Delta Music Makers Community Band.
The goal of the festival
is to highlight the
community band phenomenon and provide adult bands a venue to perform
for each
other. The camaraderie, networking, and musical enthusiasm that develop
are
important results of the event.
Family
Day!
You are all invited to bring your
family, your friends, and your lawn chairs to spend your day in Ladner! We are expecting nice weather, but the
stages are covered and the event will go ahead either way.
Audience members should bring lawn
chairs, plus umbrellas, just in case.
Huge audience-tents will be available to escape the hot
sun or inclement
weather.
Performance Schedule: Performances will alternate on the two stages. While a band is performing on the Delta Show Stage, another band will be setting up on the Gazebo, to begin performing immediately as the Show Stage band finishes. The audience members will swivel chairs back and forth to face the appropriate stage. Band Directors are asked to time their numbers for less than 40 minutes, including introductions, and to watch the clock while performing. "Pushing the envelope" will not be looked upon kindly by the bands to follow. Running late would affect the entire remainder of the day. Please note:
bands performing on the Showstage after
4pm (Maple Ridge, West Van, Royal City) may be faced with direct
sunshine in
their musicians’ eyes, so we would encourage you to be prepared with
hats and
sunglasses, as necessary.
Printed
Program
A printed program will be available
free of charge, in which musicians and audience will be able to read
the
schedule, sponsors, directors' names, hosts, band bios, etc. Please note: businesses are welcome
to purchase advertising in this program.
Contact Curt Jantzen cjband@telus.net
or Patricia Hull, patriciahull@shaw.ca.
Bonus
for Bands:
For the $150 entry fee, each band will receive a 40-minute performance
time,
with appropriate warmup and storage facilities, a $100 certificate from
Long
and McQuade, and a $50 gift certificate from Matterhorn Music Repairs.
Secure
Storage:
Band members are invited to take advantage of the secure instrument
storage
during each day, free of charge.
This will be set up inside the Kinsmen Hall and supervised
by
volunteers. It should be
entirely safe, but please note that the Delta Music Makers, and the
Ladner
Bandfest, will not accept any liability in case of loss or damage.
Setup
and Warmup:
Bands are invited to
enter the Kinsmen House 60 minutes before start-time to change into
uniform and
warm up instruments. Cases and coats can be left on the tables labeled
with
your band’s name. Forty minutes
prior to performance-time, band members should be ready to enter the
appropriate stage, just when the previous band departs.
Stage: The stages will contain
approximately 50 chairs, approximately 50 music stands, a keyboard/bass
amp, a
full drum set (bring your own cymbals and snare if desired), a concert
bass
drum, and a set of timpani. Please
contact each other to share chimes or other percussion.
Volunteers
are needed!
The jobs are not onerous
and can be learned quickly. If you
have musicians or family members interested in helping us out for two
hours
during the course of the day, please go to our website and fill
out the online Volunteer
Application (available at http://www.ladnerbandfest.org), or email coordinator Ann Bates: batesema@shaw.ca
